DESCRIPTION:
This course provides an overview of the best practices for caring for individuals with dementia. Topics covered include:
- Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia
- Effective communication Strategies for individuals with Dementia
- Assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADL’s)
- Common behavior challenges and management strategies
- Coping strategies for the family and caregivers
- Meaningful and supportive activities for the individual with dementia
PRICE:

BOOKS/ MATERIALS: All materials will be provided during class.
- Class materials and books may NOT be returned if opened.
DAY-OF- CLASS INFORMATION
Arrival Requirements
- Arrive 15–30 minutes early for registration.
- Students arriving late after class begins will be turned away.
Dress Code
In order to maintain a safe and professional presence when attending all HPMC classes, business casual attire is expected of all participants.
**Unacceptable attire includes the following:
- Revealing, see-through or tight-fitting garments including:
- Tube, tank, crop-tops, nor other low cut tops
- Shorts, skirts, dresses
- Saggy/baggy pants or shirts
- Leggings without proper longer shirt or sweater coverage
- Ripped or distressed clothing; jeans
- Sandals, slip on shoes without back/heel straps(e.g. “Crocs”), high heeled/platform shoes and no open toe shoes—all are unsafe for class participation
- No gang related attire
- No hats
**Note: Persons not wearing professional and safe clothing to class may not be admitted and will be asked to reschedule.
CONTINUING EDUCATION (CE):
- 4 Hours Continuing education approved CDPH – CNA/HHA NAC #1046
- 4 Hours, California Board of Registered Nursing CEP #15122 and California EMS CE Provider #62-2034
- If EMS CE hours are requested you must notify the instructor at class
HPMC STAFF IMPORTANT NOTES:
- This course is not a mandatory training. Any staff member who clocks in will not receive paid time.
- No refunds if any part of the course has been attended.
- The entire course must be attended to receive a certificate
- There are no student or new grad discounts for this course.
