Notes: Starting in 2026, the PALS course will be 6 hours in length. An optional BLS add-on will be available for those who need it, which will require an additional 2 hours. The total duration for participants choosing the BLS add-on will be 8 hours.

DESCRIPTION

The AHA Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Provider Course is designed for pediatricians, nurses, paramedics, respiratory therapists, emergency physicians, and other healthcare providers who care for infants and children. The PALS Provider Course teaches participants:

  • To recognize infants and children at risk for cardiopulmonary arrest
  • Strategies needed to prevent cardiopulmonary arrest in infants and children
  • Skills needed to resuscitate and stabilize infants and children in respiratory failure, shock, or cardiopulmonary arrest

This class will cover PALS content, videos, dysrhythmia overview, exam review and demonstration of skills. Knowledge of cardiac dysrhythmias is essential.  The exam contains multiple rhythm strips for interpretation.

BEFORE THE CLASS – MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS: 

Complete ALL Required Pre-Course Work – you must complete both items below and bring printed certificates with your name on them. You may access the pre-course work via: https://elearning.heart.org/courses

  • Search Course Code for PALS 1617 for the PALS Pre-course self-assessment and Video Pre-work. (Do not choose PALS Pre-Course Self-Assessment standalone).

If you would like to do a BLS Course (BLS add-on) at the same time as PALS, request to do so in the comments section of your registration.

COURSE FEE

Non-HPMC employees (Contract/ Travelers/ Registry) Fees to be paid at the class

  • PALS Course fee $175, Card $17, Book from Key Medical if you are not able to bring one with you to class $62

  • BLS Course fee $60, Card- $12, Book is required from Key Medical if you are not able to bring one with you to class  $27

REQUIRED TEXTBOOK

Every Student must have their own copy of the NEW 2025 PALS Provider Manual and have with you at class. (No shared books are allowed).

DAY‑OF‑CLASS INFORMATION

Arrival Requirements

  • Arrive 15–30 minutes early for registration.
  • Students arriving late after class begins will be turned away.

Dress Code

In order to maintain a safe and professional presence when attending all HPMC classes, business casual attire is expected of all participants.

**Unacceptable attire includes the following:

    • Revealing,  see-through or tight-fitting garments including:
      • Tube, tank, crop-tops, nor other low cut tops
      • Shorts, skirts, dresses
    • Saggy/baggy pants  or shirts
    • Leggings without proper longer shirt or sweater coverage
    • Ripped or distressed clothing; jeans
    • Sandals, slip on shoes without back/heel straps(e.g. “Crocs”), high heeled/platform shoes and no open toe shoes—all are unsafe for class participation
    • No gang related attire
    • No hats

**Note:  Persons not wearing professional and safe clothing to class may not be admitted and will be asked to reschedule.

CONTINUING EDUCATION (CE)

  • 6.0 Hours Certificate will be given at the course.  BRN CEP# 15122  EMS Provider #62-2034 (Inform at registration if EMS hours are requested  
  • additional continuing education may be obtained from AHA for Pre-Course Work and Pre-Course Self-Assessment.  (see course details on elearning.heart.org, CE/CME)
  • Class time may take more hours (up to 8.5) based on numbers of students, precourse work and remediation.
